Patti Surguine is currently displaying a storefront full of memories she's had at Granada Gourmet.
After 16 years of helping people stock their kitchens, Patti Surguine is retiring to spend more time in her own.
"I'm a working girl,” she said. “And when you’re a working girl, and you get home, you don’t have time to fuss over recipes. But I do love to cook, and now I’m going to have plenty of time."
Along with canning, preserving and making her own bread — which she did for her family for 30 years — she also wants to visit her children and grandchildren.
“I just want to travel with my cute husband of 44 years and see my kids,” she said.
This isn't the first time Surguine has retired. She was a teacher until 1998, and then started working at Granda Gourmet part-time for the original owners, Donna Dirscherl and Shirley Raines. She bought the store in 2000 with Susan Gambert, another part-time employee, until she became the sole owner in 2002.
Though she plans on leaving in the fall, she hopes someone buys her shop as it has become a favorite spot for locals to buy specialty culinary items.
“I don’t do this lightly,” she said. “I love talking to customers and entertaining. I would do this for nothing. I’ll definitely miss it.”
