Holiday parade winners announced

The winners of the Dec. 14 Home for the Holidays Parade were recognized at the Ormond Beach City Commission meeting Jan. 21. Brian Daly, chairman of the parade committee, noted that, although a little rain fell on the parade, it was a success, with 100 entrants and 3,000 participants.

In the walker category, first place went to Encore Baton & Dance Studio; Osceola Elementary won second; and third place went to Obedience Club of Daytona. In the vehicle category, first place went to Skate and Shake; Larry’s Giant Subs won second; and third place went to The Paint Drop by Valspar. In the float category, first place went to Beach Bucket; Dale Woodward Funeral Homes won second; and third place went to Providence Church.

The Best of Show trophy went to Arrow Service and Towing, while Sparkle-N-Shine took the President’s Cup for the second consecutive year.

Kent working on beach access

City Commissioner Troy Kent said at the Tuesday meeting that he was still pursuing more access to the beach for residents. In earlier meetings, he had complained about county management of the beach.

“Those who know me know that I won’t let it go until we have more access to the beach,” he said.

Kent pointed out that only one beach approach is open within the Ormond Beach city limits. He said there has been discussion about forming a board with representatives from each city and the county, where grievances can be heard and problems resolved.
