This summer, the Jacksonville Jaguars will visit seven cities across Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia with its Jaguars Caravan — a promotional event to expand the organization’s fan base and rev up its fans.
“We want to let people experience the Jaguars and get people excited for the upcoming season,” said Tony Boselli, the Jaguars first-ever draft pick in 1995.
The event, which will take place 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 4, at Winn Dixie, 111 Flagler Plaza Drive, will feature the bulk of the Jaguars’ defensive unit. Scheduled players include Brad Meester, Tyson Alualu, Derek Cox, Andre Branch, Brandon Marshall and Jeris Pendleton.
Boselli said having players there brings the event to another level.
“I think people like seeing their favorite players, and when you can see them close up, it just adds to the experience,” he said. “And when (fans) go out to root for their favorite players, the extra connection is there.”
Fans have good reason to be excited for the 2012 season and beyond, too.
The front office was completely revamped — including Owner Shahid Khan and President Mark Lamping.
On the field, the Jaguars added much-needed wide receivers in Laurent Robinson and veteran Lee Evans. The team also traded up in the 2012 NFL Draft to select highly touted WR Justin Blackmon with the fifth-overall pick.
Boselli said his former team has improved, adding: “They have been aggressive, and they have filled some weaknesses,” he said. “I think the Jaguars fans should be excited going into the upcoming season.”
Boselli is the only player to be inducted in the Pride of the Jaguars (the team’s own Hall of Fame). He said the AFC South is wide open, and the Jaguars have a chance to compete for a division title and a playoff berth.
Although it’s only the beginning of June and there is still plenty of offseason to take place, Jaguars fans have something to look forward to this fall ... and beyond. It all starts with building up that excitement.
“It’ll be a great time and a lot of fun to get out there to see the players and hear from the coaches,” Boselli said. “We hope everyone joins us.”
