Flagler radio clubs join together for kids day

The Flagler Amateur Radio Emergency Service and the Flagler Palm Coast Amateur Radio Club teamed up Sunday, Jan. 8, to bring Flagler County a day of radio fun.

The clubs set up their radio operating stations at Herschel King Park and were joined by Boy Scout Troop 402, which has been working on the radio merit badge.

The scouts and some parents started their day off with a 10-mile bike ride to the park from Rymfire Elementary, as part of their biking merit badge, and worked hands-on with radio operators at the event.

One scout, Jake Dotson, 11, thinks that the radio club might be his next venture.

“It’s very interesting,” he said. “How it works and all the equipment; and how you can talk to people from far away.”
