Seven members of Remix Martial Arts, in Palm Coast, competed in the 2011 U.S. Open World of Martial Arts Championships during the Fourth of July weekend.
It wasn’t all fun and games for seven competitors from the Remix Martial Arts Studio, of Palm Coast, at the 2011 U.S. Open World of Martial Arts Championships, which took place during the Fourth of July weekend, in Orlando.
All seven participants placed and earned trophies in various divisions.
The participants were as follows: Paul Schettino won the first-place trophy in the boys advanced brown/black belt fighting division; Anthony Schettino won the bronze medal in the boys advanced brown/black belt fighting division; Andrew Mays took second place in the massive boys intermediate blue/purple belt division; Johnny Pingshaw (14 to 16 years old) and Mathias Daza (9 to 11)each placed second in the extreme martial arts division for their age groups; and Cindy Matrosoff and Thomas Rocco Jr. earned two bronze medals each in their respective divisions of intermediate green/purple belts for traditional form and fighting form.
Kevin Williams, owner and instructor of Remix Martial Arts Studio, said there was a huge display of heart, determination, motivation and teamwork demonstrated during the weekend.
“My father always told me, ‘Don’t ever say the sky is the limit ... when there are footprints on the moon,’” Williams said. “I’m extremely proud of the team, and I hope they will continue to stay focused and strive to be the best in all that they do.”
