The third-annual event benefits the Dolly Parton Imagination Library.
The Young Professionals Group of Flagler County hosted its third-annual Kentucky Derby fundraiser on Saturday, May 4, at Grand Haven Golf Club. It benefited the Flagler County Dolly Parton Imagination Library.
Bowties and large, colorful hats were encouraged at the event. Admission was $50. Horse-racing fans who attended were treated to an open bar, horse "betting," raffles, food, live music and a horse-racing table game, hosted by JB Birney.
John Birney Jr., an apprentice at JBirney Financial, said about $7,000 was raised at the event.
The Dolly Parton Imagination Library provides children in Flagler County a book each month from the time they are born until they are five years old at no cost to the family. It costs about $3,000 per month to make sure every kid under five years of age gets their monthly book, according to YPG Flagler. Each community is responsible to raise the money, while Dolly Parton's foundation coordinates selection and mailing of the books. Visit http://www.flaglerchamber.org/pages/young-professionals-group.
