A walk for clean water: Flagler Beach Montessori School donates to Waves for Water

The Flagler Beach Montessori School raised $1,000 to donate to the Waves for Water foundation, which will provide countries in need with filtration systems that produce clean drinking water.

The Flagler Beach Montessori School has raised $1,000 so far to go towards the Waves4Water program.

All the students at the Flagler Beach Montessori School participated in a walk-a-thon Friday, Nov. 20, to help raise money for the Waves for water foundation. Together the 42 students raised $1,000. The money will be used to send 20 water filtration systems to communities in need of clean water. Each filtration system can clean one million gallons of water, which will efficiently provide clean drinking water to 100 people for five years. The filter attaches to a bucket and by itself is light and versatile, weighing only three ounces. The bucket can be filled with water from any source, the filter will remove protozoan and bacteria’s which will make the water clean to drink.

Flagler Beach Montessori School student Ryan Huckabee visited Nicaragua, with his family, in August of 2014, to deliver filtration systems to schools in need. “It is rewarding to help others who are not as fortunate as ourselves,” Ryan Huckabee said.

“This is people helping people, with receiving the basic needs we are all entitled to,” Founder of Waves for water Jon Rose said. “My goal is to give every single person clean water.” Taken from wavesforwater.org.

“It changes your life when you see the poor living conditions these people live in,” Flagler Beach Montessori School teacher Kerri Huckabee, and Ryan’s mother, said. “As Americans, we are dripping with excessive resources, many cannot imagine what being truly poor is like. These people in other countries may not even have access to vital resources to keep them alive for another day.” The Huckabee family has partnered with the Flagler Beach Montessori School to create “Miraculous Montessori Moments and Common Cents,” a fundraising program to continue supporting Waves for water.
