The lunch bags were given to thank the first responders.
Ashlyn, Corbett and Emma Machiela prepare 50 bagged lunches.
What a day in the Machiela household! Three siblings, Ashlyn, Corbett and Emma, wanted to do something for all the people who were serving the community, so they performed two service projects on Sunday, Oct. 9.
One project was accomplished at a city landmark that honors first responders, Heroes Park. The kids swept and hauled, filling 12 black garbage bags with debris.
The kids also bagged lunches that were delivered to first responders on Oct. 9. Their mother, Ashley, wrote via email: "Lunches included a sandwich, fruit, oatmeal creme pie, chips and a piece of Double Bubble. It kept us busy when we didn't have power."
To add more to the story, the kids' grandmother Belinda Machiela also emailed the Observer to say that Ashlyn had open-heart surgery in June. "We are very grateful she is recovering so well," she wrote. "This little girl has been through a lot. I am very proud of my grandchildren."
