The 2022-23 Student School Board members joined the dais for the first time at the Flagler County School Board meeting on Sept. 20.
Principals Bobby Bossardet of Flagler Palm Coast High School and Kristin Bozeman of Matanzas high introduced the student board members representing their schools. Roymara Louissaint will be FPC's representative to the board, while Isabella Tietje will represent Matanzas.
Both high school seniors noted they are fortunate to be able to join the School Board as student representatives because many counties don't provide such an opportunity to their students.
"I'm very busy, but I'm very excited for this," said Tietje, who is the Matanzas Honor Society president, vice president of Mu Apha Theta math honor society, president of the Pirate Athletic Committee, captain of the swim team and last year's captain of the wrestling team. She also has a part-time job and her own business making corsages and boutonnieres from dried flowers.
Louissaint is FPC's Student Government Association president, coach for Mu Alpha Theta and a member of the Future Problem Solving program and the National Honor Society. She founded the HOSA program for future health professionals at FPC. Louissaint said she wants to major in bio-medical engineering and possibly minor in linguistics. Her dream school is Stanford, which she said has a bio-medical engineering program within its medical school.
Tietje, a surfer and outdoor enthusiast, would like to major in environmental science at the University of Florida or Columbia, a school which she said "is very much a reach." She started Bella's Eco Warriors where she worked with a local surfing series that traveled the East Coast cleaning up beaches and teaching kids about the environment. Both Tietje and Louissaint hope to attend medical school.
