Savannah Umpenhour named finalist for Future Problem Solving Scholarship

FPC student created a child-friendly ER lobby as her project

Flagler Schools is proud to announce Savannah Umpenhour has been named a finalist for the 2016 “Creating the Future” scholarship, presented by Future Problem Solving Program International.

“She (Savannah) is the ultimate problem solver,” said Diane Tomko, Future Problem Solving program teacher. “She uses her skills to make the world a better place. Savannah has always been driven and has always been creative and innovative. Most of all, it is the empathy she has for making our community a better place."

Savannah led the charge to re imagine Florida Hospital Flagler’s ER lobby, making it more child friendly in 2013.

The “Creating the Future” scholarship began in 2010 in honor of Dr. E. Paul Torrance, the founder of Future Problem Solving Program. According to the FPSI website: “FPS is an international competitive program in which students apply a problem solving process to situations involving global issues, to current issues in schools and communities, and to visions of the future through storytelling.

The scholarship recognizes a current FPS student who is graduating from secondary school. Applicants generally have many years of participation in competitive Future Problem Solving, often in more than one component. In addition, they have shown exceptional dedication to the program through actions that embody the skills of a creative problem solver and/or support the program in their geographic area.”
