The Rotary Club of Palm Coast is celebrating its 30th anniversary by inviting the community to join them in recognizing the “Community Stars” who make the city a special place to live.
The inaugural event is set for 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at the Palm Coast Community Center.
Any resident of Flagler County can submit 2018 nominations through midnight on Aug. 31 for the following categories:

Sponsorship opportunities are available and ticket sales will begin in August.

A 2017 Matanzas High School graduate and Palm Coast native is stationed with a command responsible for teaching future information warriors the skills required to defend America around the world, according to a press release by the Navy Office of Community Outreach.
Seaman Wilfredo Aponte works as a cryptologic technician and operates out of the Information Warfare Training Command Corry Station.
The release states: A cryptologic technician is responsible for analyzing electronic communications, jamming enemy radar signals, deciphering information in foreign languages and maintaining equipment and networks used to generate top secret intel.
Aponte credits success in the Navy with lessons learned growing up in Palm Coast.
“I learned the importance of being honest,” he said in the release.
With the cultural season opening in October, the Mike Curb College of Music, Entertainment and Art at Daytona State College invites local musicians to join the Symphonic Band, Symphony Orchestra or Jazz Ensemble. No fees are required for participation unless college credit is desired.

The Community Foundation of Volusia and Flagler, a division of the local United Way, is excited to announce the launch of its brand new PASSIONFUNDS, a series of charitable funds that make it easy for donors to support causes near to their hearts. The new operation has been designed to make it easy and rewarding to support community causes, specific charitable organizations, scholarships or other giving options.
Donors may connect with their PASSIONFUND through a secure online portal on their computer or mobile device. They can make new grants, view their funds value and review gift and grant histories.

Laura Abrahams, an 89-year-old Palm Coast resident, wants to thank two young women who stopped to help her recently after she fell outside a Winn-Dixie in Palm Coast.
"I was trying to step up on the curb and next thing I knew, I flipped around and flopped down on the sidewalk with my legs up in the air," Abrahams said.
She said two women stopped their car in the middle of the street and began to help her up with no hesitation. Abrahams said she’ll be rehabbing for a few days but that she’ll be OK.
“I’m a tough old lady,” she said. “I just wanted to say, ‘thank you.’”

Imagine School at Town Center announced on July 19 an amendment to its policy for serving meals to students under the National School Lunch/School Breakfast Programs for the 2018-2019 school year, according to a new release. The release states that all students will now be served lunch/breakfast at no charge.
The New Jersey Social Club held its monthly meeting at the Palm Coast Community Center on July 25. Karen Young, tourism liaison at the Flagler Beach Historical Museum, was the guest speaker. She told the club about the history of Flagler Beach, the Flagler Beach Pier and Henry Flagler himself.
