The seventh-annual Moonlit Gala was held April 24 at Hammock Beach Resort by the Florida Hospital Flagler Foundation. The sold-out event drew 300 attendees that consisted of foundation board members, executive board members of the hospital, employees and vendors of the hospital and community supporters from the 20/20 membership club, members are those who share “20/20 Vision of Future Healthcare” for our community. “We are really enthused by not only the community support externally but also the internal support within the hospital,” said Laura Gilvary, Moonlit Gala chairwoman.
The goal of the Moonlit Gala is to promote world-class health care in Flagler County. People come to support the foundation so the hospital can fulfil their mission to strive to extend the healing ministry of Christ in everything they do. The event is expected to have raised $125,000. Every dollar collected through fundraising stays in Flagler County.
This year’s charities were for diabetes, Flagler Cares, and Florida Hospital Flagler Care. Flagler Cares is a program for health and wellness for underserved and needy in our community. Florida Hospital Flagler Care provides education and clinical support to patients who are uninsured and use Medicaid that use the emergency room most often. The fundraiser for diabetes touched home for Florida Hospital Flagler Chairman Tony Papandrea as well as Gilvary, the event’s chairwoman. Papandrea’s wife avoided medication for her Type 2 diabetes by making day to day changes in her life. Gilvary’s husband suffers from Type 1 diabetes. She got involved to make sure that his voice is heard and so that the community can learn more about this disease. Not many may know that diabetes is the fifth leading cause of death in Flagler County.
In November the Florida Flagler Hospital Foundation will be facilitating different events to bring awareness, education and diabetes testing to Flagler County during World Diabetes Month.
