The Pirates have been struggling with injuries so far this season.
Matanzas's boys lacrosse team held a large lead for much of the game when the Pirates faced Seminole the night of Friday, March 6, at Matanzas High School.
The Pirates led by as a much as four goals. However, with fewer than three minutes to play in regulation, Seminole scored two goals about a minute apart to cut the Pirates' lead to one.
Seminole had several shots at the net in the game's final moments.
"It was a tough one," Matanzas goal keeper Stephen Usina said. "They're a great team. Toward the end of the game, it was kind of getting frustrating."
The Pirates, who have been fighting multiple injuries so far this season, held on for the 5-4 victory.
"The boys were tired at the end, but they worked hard to keep that lead," Matanzas first-year head coach Brett Galt said. "It's been kind of a crazy year so far."
