Flagler Palm Coast vs. Clay at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, at Clay: Clay wins 24-10. The Bulldogs shocked the Blue Devils last season, getting past them 7-0. This year will prove different. Clay’s running back Colin Wilson will have a big game, finding open holes, while Que’Shaun Byrd will have to create his own lanes. The Blue Devils will wear down the Bulldogs and stop them at the right times to get their first win of the season.
Mainland vs. Bartram Trail at 5 p.m. Monday, Sept. 5, at Bartram Trail: Mainland wins 41-24. The Bucs shut out rival DeLand 35-0 in the opener, sending a huge statement to their future opponents. Traveling to St. Johns to face Class 7A eighth-ranked Bartram Trail Bears, they will not have as easy of a game as last year. They beat them 56-24. The Bears’ quarterback Joey Gatewood will have Bartram Trail in the game throughout the first half, but Mainland will make enough adjustments to pull away.
Matanzas vs. Atlantic at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, at Matanzas: Matanzas wins 24-16. Throughout their season opener against crosstown rival FPC, the Pirates reminded me of my wrongful prediction. This week, they host the Sharks, whom they beat 41-2 last season. That won’t happen this year. The Sharks went through a number of coaches and lost each of their games. They’re a totally different team. Although they will get win No. 2, Matanzas will have to play just as hard as last week to do so.
Seabreeze vs DeLand at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3, at Daytona Beach Municipal Stadium: DeLand wins 27-7. Both teams were shut down in their openers, so both Seabreeze and DeLand will be looking to get a win. The Sandcrabs have struggled in the last several years against all teams, while DeLand, which has talent, seems to play only good teams. DeLand will score enough points and keep the Sandcrabs out of the end zone for a big win.

Father Lopez vs. Warner Christian Academy: This game has been rescheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, at Warner Christian.
