This is the first time the ITMS Spanish Club students participated in the flag parade.
Colors filled the Hispanic American Club of Palm Coast as students in the Spanish Club at Indian Trails Middle School marched onto the dance floor to present the flags of Hispanic nations from around the globe.
This is the first time the Flag of Nations Parade was done by the students instead of members of the HACPC, said event coordinator Elizabeth Ortiz.
ITMS Spanish teacher Christina Gilliam said she was proud that many of her students could represent the nations where members of their family actually still live.
Hispanic American Club member Marta Rentas, of Palm Coast, was brought to tears by the flag display.
"It means that they have to remember their roots — where they came from — and be proud wherever they go," Rentas said about the students. "I cry whenever I see this coming together. That's why I'm a member of this club, and I'm so proud of it."
The Pan-American Extravaganza at the club, located at 5 Commercial Court, featured an evening of dinner and dancing after the Flag of Nations Parade.
