Lisa Setien, the general manager at Highjackers Restaurant, is celebrating 15 years in business during the week of Aug. 22-28.
“We owe our 15 years of success to our patrons and friends,” Setien said in a press release. “We wanted to show our appreciation to everyone that supports our restaurant, and the community causes we ask them to support, like the recent surgery to help Avery Bishop walk.”
Avery Bishop is a 6-year-old Flagler County resident that needed a $35,000 surgical procedure to help her walk. Co-owner of Highjackers Gail Holt has been a family friend of the Bishops for many years. Highjackers helped, the money was raised, and Avery had surgery last month and is undergoing physical therapy to help her walk.
The restaurant tries to incorporate charity work into all of its major events, raising thousands for the American Red Cross, Hospice and families in need, for a total of about $75,000 for various causes over the past 15 years.
One promotion in the anniversary week is that one table will be picked at random to have an entire dinner paid for by Highjackers. The restaurant is located at 202 Airport Road in Palm Coast at the Flagler County Airport. Call 586-6078.
Back to Eden Café reopens in Flagler Beach
After being closed for two months, Maria Serrano has re-opened Back to Eden Café, at 210 S. Central Ave., Flagler Beach. The restaurant specializes in organic, vegan, vegetarian, and raw living foods for lunch and dinners.
The café opened in 2013 and seats approximately 22 inside and outside. It is owned by David Hostetter, a former Flagler Beach resident and former Navy Seal, who now lives in North Carolina. Call 693-4930.
Three churches make investments in construction
In addition to Christ the King (see Page 19), two other churches invested in their classrooms. St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, at 4600 Belle Terre Parkway, is investing $25,000 in classroom conversion.
Meanwhile, Palm Coast Baptist Church is adding a two-story, 12,225-square-foot classroom facility, at 5345 Belle Terre Parkway. The permit was approved for a value of $1.4 million.
7-Eleven landing in front of Beach Village?
A commercial permit was applied for last week with the job description as follows: “All site work for 7-Eleven.” The applicant was Wilson’s Petroleum Equipment Inc, and the site is located at 2560 E. State Road 100, which is one of the outparcels on 100 in front of the Publix grocery store and the Beach Village Apartments.
Island Walk storefronts make progress
Another restaurant is ready to open Island Walk. The sign has been on the front of the building for some time now, but China Express has received a certificate of occupancy from the city of Palm Coast, clearing the way to open.
Two other storefronts received occupancy permits: Crossfit Hammock Beach, at Suite 604 in Island Walk; and Island Breeze, which is an “upscale resale shop,” at Suite 403.
Assisted living facility applies for $11 million permit
A commercial permit application has been submitted for Protea Senior Living, at 65 Fernmill Lane, which is at the southeast corner of an open lot bordered on the north by Forest Grove Lane and on the east by Palm Harbor Parkway. The contractor is Elkins Construction, out of Jacksonville.
The Palm Coast Planning and Land Development Regulation Board approved Protea Senior Living's technical site plan for the first phase of the project in a meeting Jan. 20. It was projected to be an 82-unit, 100-bed assisted living facility. The facility will employ about 60 full-time and part-time staff members, according to city planning staff documents.
About 13 acres of the vacant, 18.67-acre plot picked for the facility is now mostly wetland, and will largely stay that way, city planning staff told board members in January.
The facility's central building will have a bistro, pub, theater, spa and fitness center.
McDonald’s restaurants get renovations
Two of Flagler County’s four McDonald’s restaurants are having some work done. The site at 5190 E. State Road 100, which is in front of Target, is having $25,000 worth of work done, while the site 6030 E. State Road 100, just east of Interstate 95, is getting more extensive upgrades worth $315,000. In both cases, the commercial permit applications were completed by Southland Construction.
Florida Hospital designated as a 2016 Most Wired health system
Adventist Health System, which includes the six Florida Hospital facilities in Volusia and Flagler counties, has been named a 2016 Most Wired health system for the fourth year in a row, based on the results of HealthCare’s Most Wired survey.
The survey shows that Most Wired hospitals are using telehealth to improve care; using technology to build patient engagement with the individual’s lifestyle in mind, which includes electronic access to their care team; and utilizing population health management tools and partnering with other health care providers to share critical clinical information.
+ Between Aug. 4 and Aug. 10, the city of Palm Coast issued 256 permits.
+ Since Oct. 1 of last year, there has been a total of $190.1 million in construction value invested in the city.
+ 13 single-family residences were permitted for construction, including four by Seagate Homes.
+ The most expensive homes permitted were for $309,000, by Vanacore Construction.
