German tradition meets pirate crews at Palm Coast Oktoberfest

Hammock Wine and Cheese hosted its first Oktoberfest Friday, Oct. 20, and will continue celebrating Saturday, Oct. 21.

Local pirates and lovers of German beer joined together for the first Oktoberfest at Hammock Wine and Cheese on Friday, Oct. 20.

Guests were able to enjoy German food made by Ramon Personal Chef, as well as glasses and mugs of beer and wine.

Tammy Kelly, manager at Hammock Wine, traded her normal pirate getup for German garb in honor of the festivities. But she brought her pirate friends from Krewe of the 13, a local nonprofit that supports public charities.

"I love it for the comradery of the community pirates with the German culture," Kelly said.

Money from the silent auction will benefit Krewe of the 13's charity, St. Francis House, which helps engage the homeless in St. Augustine in achieving stability, self-sufficiency and a plan for their future. 

A second day of events will be held Saturday, Oct. 21, from 2-10 p.m. at 5368 N. Oceanshore Blvd. 

Steve Gallagher, Hammock Wine owner, is hoping that both nights will raise a total of $5,000 for the charity through the silent auction.

"We're German today," Gallagher laughed.
