The lacrosse alumni proved they can still move Sunday, Dec. 19, in the annual FPC Alumni Lacrosse Game. The old school team out-scored the current Bulldogs 16-14. This year's game was played in honor of class of 2004 alumnus Fred Gleissner, who died Dec. 3, in a car accident. At the end of the game, coach Ryan Andrews announced the team will continue to honor him yearly by handing out the Fred Gleissner Annual Character Award.

Central Park at Town Center was rocking Saturday, Dec. 11, at the Holiday Fantasy Fest. The celebration included music, Santa, bounce houses and, of course, ice skating. The evening concluded with the annual Holiday Starlight Parade, led by Iraq War veteran Felix Garcia.

Once a month, the Flagler Youth Center stays open late for Friday Night Lights. Sixth- through eighth- graders were invited Friday, Dec. 10, for games, karaoke and snacks. The youth center will be closed from Saturday, Dec. 18, to Sunday, Jan. 2. The next Friday Night Lights will be held Jan. 21.

Academies all around Flagler County came together Sunday, Dec. 12, for Dance Around Flagler, a holiday showcase at the Flagler Auditorium. The show included performances by the dance departments at Flagler Palm Coast High, Matanzas High and Rymfire Elementary schools, Fred Astaire Dance Studio, Flagler School of Dance, 3'N Motion and North East Florida Dance Academy.

Residents celebrated the season Saturday, Dec. 11, at Holiday in the Gardens, at Washington Oaks Gardens State Park. The event featured musical entertainment, photos with Santa, the Holidays Around the World playground, a gingerbread house contest and plant and bake sales.

The members Flagler Palm Coast High School baseball team played chef Saturday, Dec. 4, at their Breakfast with Santa fundraiser. The team served eggs, pancakes, bacon, sausage, coffee, juice and hot chocolate on the brisk winter morning. But breakfast was just the beginning. Attendees were also invited to sit on Santa's lap and relate their wishlists. FPC baseball will plays its first home game 6 p.m., Feb. 18, against Mainland.

The temperatures in Palm Coast dropped just in time for ice skating in Central Park to feel like the real deal. Kids were bundled up in scarves and mittens while gliding across the synthetic ice, which is stationed in the entrance to Town Center. The rink will be open 5:30 to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, noon to 10 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday until Jan. 2. Cost is $8 for adults and $5 for children 13 and under.

More than 50 trees, decorated and donated by groups around the community, filled the Flagler County Public Library Friday, Dec. 3, at the 2010 Festival of Trees. The celebration featured music by the trinity Presbyterian Bell Ringers and the Matanzas High School Advanced Choral students. Santa and Mrs. Claus made an appearance in the Children's Department. The trees will be on display for the month of December, at the library.

The banks of the Intracoastal Waterway were overflowing with people who came to watch the 25th-annual Holiday Boat Parade, sponsored by the Palm Coast Yacht Club. As boats passed, the crowd cheered for the lights and Christmas music playing from the decks. Five-year-old parade watcher Nicole Rimstidt said all the boats were pretty, but she eventually settled on the pink and purple lights as her favorites.

Santa may have forgotten his seatbelt on the sleigh, but at least he remembered his parachute. The bearded one dropped in Saturday, Dec. 4, to begin the Flagler Beach Holiday Parade. Charlie Helm and Renee Worthington were masters of ceremony for the second year in a row, and thousands of people braved the showers of lollipops and the full-blast sirens of emergency vehicles to enjoy the festivities.

VFW Post 8696 held its first Collectibles and Craft Sale Saturday, Nov. 27. It was organized by Marie Robinson and Kathy Papson, who said it will become an annual event. Mike and Connie Cadenhead were among the customers. Mike owns a collection of Matchbox cars and a city of 50 miniature houses, which he spends weeks setting up for the holidays. Now, he'll have to spend an extra few minutes because he is the proud owner of two new Coca-Cola-themed Volkswagen Beetles.

The Flagler County Public Library invited children and parents Monday, Nov. 29, to join in a night at the movies. The children and young adult departments teamed up for a showing of 'Beauty and the Beast.' Free movie screenings will continue thoughout December. Movie matinees will be 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4; 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 18; 1:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 20; 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21; 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 22; and 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 23.
