What are the bad guys up to?
Never been fired
8 a.m. — First block of Blackwell Place.
Burlgary residence: The victim said he took his handgun to a shop to be cleaned, and when he returned, he kept it in the pocket of his jacket in a closet. Two or three weeks later, he tried to find the gun and couldn’t. He believes someone stole it from his house. It’s worth $323, and it has never been fired.
Should have listened to the dogs …
6:40 a.m. — First block of Luther Drive.
Car break: The victim reported that a gun was stolen from his locked car. His dogs were restless at about 2 a.m., but he looked outside and didn’t see anything suspicious. The next morning, he noticed that dew appeared to have been wiped away on the top portion of the door of his car, as if something was used to slide into the door crack. He unlocked the car and saw that the center console was rummaged through, and his gun was missing, a .45-caliber semiautomatic.
6:41 p.m. — 1200 block of Palm Coast Parkway.
Shoplifting: A man was arrested at his home in the W-section, after he was caught on video taking $62.57 worth of beer without paying for it from a grocery store. The man brought three cases of beer to the customer service desk to buy lottery tickets, but never paid for the beer. The man was read his Miranda rights but chose not to speak to the deputy who was arresting him.
Five strikes and you’re out
7:45 p.m. — Belle Terre Parkway and Central Avenue.
Knowingly driving with a suspended license: A deputy was parked in the intersection on Eastwood Drive, conducting traffic enforcement. The deputy saw a gray car traveling northbound and ran the license plate through the online system; the license had been suspended, so the deputy followed the car. The deputy pulled alongside the car and identified the driver as the same person whose photo was uploaded in conjunction with the vehicle in the online system. The woman driver pulled over and was “upset and stated that she knew why I was stopping her,” the deputy wrote in the report. Her driver’s license had been canceled indefinitely in April. In face, she had four prior convictions for driving with a suspended license. She was arrested, and her car was towed.
