Volusia County to give free trees to residents in celebration of Florida Arbor Day

Among the trees available will be big red mayhaw, chinquapin, live oak, red mulberry, chickasaw plum, American persimmon, southern crabapple, pawpaw, and pecan.

To celebrate Florida Arbor Day, Volusia County will host a tree giveaway, offering households the opportunity to receive two complimentary native Florida food trees.

The trees will be available from 8 to 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 20, at the UF/IFAS Extension Volusia County, 3100 E. New York Ave., DeLand.

Among the trees available will be big red mayhaw, chinquapin, live oak, red mulberry, chickasaw plum, American persimmon, southern crabapple, pawpaw, and pecan. The trees, with a bare root, will range from 1 to 2 feet tall.

The distribution of native Florida food trees by the County helps preserve the local natural heritage and promotes a connection between residents and their natural surroundings. This initiative also supports the health and diversity of local ecosystems, underscoring the County's commitment to environmental stewardship.

Proof of Volusia County residency will be required to receive trees. The event will continue while supplies last. For more information, contact the Environmental Management Division at 386-736-5927.
