Council member, Superintendent recognized as first African American woman to hold the positions in Flagler, Palm Coast

Palm Coast council member Cathy Heighter and Flagler Schools Superintendent Lashakia Moore were recognized for their historic achievements as the first African American women to hold their positions in Flagler County and Palm Coast.

The Dwyer Knight Law Firm and Howard Holley Sr., of Touchpoint Innovative Solutions, hosted an event celebrating the two women on Feb. 16. City manager Denise Bevan and Mayor David Alfin attended the celebration, a press release from the city said.

Bevan said they were thrilled to be a part of recognizing Heighter and Moore's achievements.

"Their unwavering dedication, perseverance, and commitment to excellence has established a benchmark for leadership and inspired countless individuals," Bevan said. "Councilwoman Heighter, in particular, embodies the core values and mission of the city of Palm Coast, and we are immensely proud to celebrate her achievements alongside Superintendent Moore."

All proceeds from the event will support the Coastal Entrepreneurship and Innovation Institute, the press release said, which provides free business consulting services to underrepresented communities.
