The First Friday celebration at Flagler Beach in April featured a new cover band and a truck selling sweet, icy treats.
Five local musicians saw the same ad several months ago, seeking fans of The Beach Boys.
Within two weeks of coming together, Chas Holden, Charley Ryan, Neil Boyle, Allan Kaye and Billy Henderson had formed a band.
The name Endless Summer came from The Beach Boys’ greatest hits album. They all grew up listening to The Beach Boys and each have a love for their harmony and unique sound. That summer feel is what they love most.
With their first large crowd at First Friday, it became the coolest place they’ve played. A small crowd was already starting to form an hour and a half before they went on stage. To prepare for a performance they each listen to the music at home and select a part. From there, they hammer it out. Their next goal is to play at a larger venue like the Flagler Auditorium. They love being able to bring excitement to audiences by recreating the music they love.
A short distance from the stage, one could see the Kona Ice truck. Jackie and Chuck Cullen moved to Florida from Louisville, Kentucky, after an early retirement from Ford Motor Co. and an accounting job. They connected with the franchise company, Kona Ice.
Kona Ice is a contemporary alternative to a snow cone. Not only is the product smart snack approved, meaning it meets the USDA guidelines for in-school nutrition standards, but each treat has Vitamin A and D and less sugar. The Cullens donate a percentage of their sales to local organizations. You can look for the Kona Ice truck at Rockin’ Rib fest April 8 through April 10 at the Flagler County Fairgrounds.
