Flagler Promise of Flagler County graduate Sara Conway has returned to the nonprofit as a member of its board of directors. Her role is to offer the perspective of someone who has gone through the process.
"I think that when people hear from someone who has been through the program, it means more," she said. "When they see someone who has actually benefited from the program, it sparks something, and I'm glad that I can give that."
Since graduating the program in March 2013, Conway has maintained a stable living situation for herself and her two children; enrolled back into Daytona State College to finish her bachelor's degree in business administration; and joined the board.
Going back to school was something Conway says resulted from a conversation with Jim Morelewicz.
“It kind of gave me that push. ... It just meant a lot to me that Jim and the other board members thought that I could contribute to Family Promise in a new way," Conway said."
Conway said that the volunteers at the host churches really became part of her family, too.
“Family Promise is so important to me; once I graduated the program, I felt that I lost something,” Conway said. “To be a part of Family Promise again means so much. Ultimately, there is light at the end of the tunnel, and I want people to see that."
