Since being founded in 2006, the University Women of Flagler has awarded $48,000 in scholarships to graduates of Flagler County high schools, plus an annual award to the Take Stock in Children program.

This year, the following five young ladies received scholarships of $1,500 each for use at any four-year institution of higher learning of their choice: Abigail Bayer, Widline Guillaume, and Brook Manze, from Matanzas Higher School; and Carrie Harnett and Eva Perez, from Flagler Palm Coast High School. Additionally, one previous scholarship recipient, Emily Kruithof, received an award of $500 to continue her studies at the University of Florida.

The organization also gave $1,000 to The Take Stock in Children Program again this year, making the total 2013-14 contributions $9,000 from the group. UWF funds these scholarships through donations, fundraising events and sponsorships. All proceeds earned by UWF fundraising efforts go to the Scholarship Fund.

This year’s scholarship committee was chaired by Sybil Daniel and Ouida Green.
