Garry and Ella Irby Reff of Muncie, Ind., celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in Palm Coast. They were married Jan. 12, 1964, by the Rev. Vaughn Murray in the Daleville Methodist Church, in Indiana. Gary was an English and social studies teacher, and then he became a local pastor in the United Methodist Church. Ella also taught English and Spanish.
Joining them in their days of celebration were their three daughters and their families: Lora and Larry York, of Anderson, Ind.; Marla and Ben Kessler, and grandchildren Joshua and Shannon, of Fort Wayne, Ind.; and Brenda and Mike Legaspi, and grandchildren Aaron and Adam, of Palm Coast.
Mike Legaspi, minister of congregational care at the Palm Coast United Methodist Church, presided as the couple renewed their original vows.
The search is on for Florida’s Outstanding Senior Volunteers
Know a senior who gives his or her time to help the community? Here’s your chance to give them a little recognition, by nominating them through the Salute to Senior Service program.
Sponsored by Home Instead Inc., Salute to Senior Service recognizes the contributions of adults age 65 and older who volunteer at least 15 hours per month.
“Seniors have so much to give,” said Mary Beth Johnson, president of the Home Instead Senior Care office serving Flagler and Putnam Counties. “Senior volunteerism not only benefits others but also helps seniors stay active and socially engaged in their communities – important elements of healthy aging.”
Members of the community are asked to nominate and vote from now until March 1, at salutetoseniorservice.com. State winners will be determined by popular vote. A panel of senior care experts will then select a national Salute to Senior Service winner.
Gimme shelter: Second Chance Rescue helps the homeless
Second Chance Rescue is participating in the first round of the Animal Rescue Shelter Challenge. Voting began Jan. 6 and runs through March 30. Voting is every day to help SCR help homeless animals.
In 2013, Second Chance saved 903 animals from euthanasia and adopted out 847 (638 dogs, 186 cats, 8 horses, 2 pigs and 8 guinea pigs).

Anchor Boat Club changes watch
The Anchor Boat Club of Palm Coast installed new officers Jan. 18. They are as follows: Commodore Barbara Eveleth, Vice Commodore George Balla, Rear Commodore Mary O'Brien, Fleet Captain Linda Cohen, Secretary Vi VanGordon and Treasurer Rick DiFilippo.
