The Flagler County School Board Tuesday night approved planned easements for the widening of Bulldog Drive, near the entry to Town Center, in an arrangement also meant to improve drainage at Flagler Palm Coast High School.

The Flagler County School District would deed over to the city six acres of district land along Bulldog Drive. The city would then deal with stormwater issues, including a pump to remove the excess water that often fills the school's parking lot. The School Board entered into an interlocal agreement with Palm Coast for the improvements in 2010.

A ditch along the road would be filled in for the widening process.

“A lot of extensive work has gone into that design,” Flagler County School District Director of Plant Services Walt Fischer said at the Tuesday meeting. “These easements have to do with improvements on our property at the cost to the city, namely our stormwater and parking facilities on the campus.”

“In the future, we anticipate that we will not have the flooding problems that we have had in the past,” Fischer said. “We anticipate that we will be able to start the pump prior to the event.
