IN BRIEF: Ormond police on lookout for drinking and driving

Meeting planned for Environmental Learning Center volunteers

The City of Ormond Beach is seeking a core group of volunteers to be a part of the development of programming for the new Environmental Learning Center.

The center is scheduled to open in December, 2015, in Central Park. The mission of the center will be to foster an awareness and appreciation of the natural environment by providing stimulating environmental education programs that inspire participants to be active stewards of their surrounding natural resources, according to a spokeswoman for the city.

The first volunteer informational meeting will take place at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan, 13, in the conference room in the Performing Arts Center, 399 N. U.S. 1.

For more information contact the Leisure Services Department at 676-3293 or [email protected].

Police watch for DUI during holidays

The Ormond Beach Police Department is participating in the Holiday Season DUI Crackdown in an effort to keep people safe, according to a police spokesman. The crackdown began Dec. 10 and will continue until Jan. 1. The police department urges citizens to use a designated driver or taxi, if alcoholic beverages have been consumed.
