Do you want to spend a weekend rubbing elbows with Major League Baseball Hall of Famers? The KinderVision Foundation annual fundraiser is just around the corner an offers everything from a baseball camp to a banquet.
The weekend kicks off with a free baseball clinic coached by former MLB players 1- 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at Jackie Robinson Ballpark, in Daytona Beach, for boys and girls ages 7-15. Kids will be divided into instructional groups by age and need to bring their gloves and one item to have autographed at the end of the clinic.
The baseball continues at the ballpark with The Greatest Save Hall of Fame Legends Game with Hall of Famers Rollie Fingers and Ferguson Jenkins at 6 p.m. Children under 12 are free, and adults are $5. VIP tickets are available for $25 and include an on-field autograph and picture opportunity. Daytona Beach Police Department Chief Mike Chitwood will throw out the first pitch. Some of the former MLB players scheduled to attend include Jim Rooker, Tim Leary, Darrell Evans, Jim Perry, Darold Knowles, Mark Whiten, Tim Foli, Jim Leyritz and Jon Warden. This game will be recorded in the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y.
The fundraising really begins Sunday, Sept. 29, with the Stars for Kids Gala beginning 5 p.m., at Hammock Beach Resort. Fingers, Jenkins and the other former players will be in attendance at the event, and all attendees will be given a baseball for autographs. Music will be provided by the Flagler Youth Strings Quartet. There will be live and silent auction items with baseball memorabilia.
“It’s really an opportunity for people to get out and see these player up close — a chance for them to just come in and hang out,” said Nancy Sebastian, executive director of the KinderVision Foundation and Palm Coast resident.
Also at the banquet, The Greatest Save 2013 Law Enforcement Honorees for North East Florida will be recognized, including Detective Erick Kuleski, of the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office.
The events continue Monday, Sept. 30, with the Stars for Kids Golf Tournament with Fingers and Jenkins and a former player in every foursome on the Ocean Course at Hammock Beach Resort. Shotgun start is at 9 a.m. followed by an awards luncheon at 2 p.m.
