Running to remember: a tribute

Team RWB Daytona hosted a party of first-responders, veterans, spouses, parents and children in a two-mile 9/11 tribute run Wednesday evening along Granada Boulevard, as passersby showed support by honking and waving.

A national volunteer organization that connects veterans to their communities, the Daytona Beach chapter of Team RWB has more than 225 members and hosts weekly, as well as monthly, workouts, training programs and fitness events.

Joining the program is free. Email [email protected].

Hospitality scholarship dedicated to Ormond Beacher

Two $2,500 scholarships to the University of Central Florida Rosen College of Hospitality will be available the next three years through Bluegreen Vacations, which opened the program in memory of Ormond Beach’s Michael Gaudiosi, a former associate who died in December.

Gaudiosi was the general manager of the company’s Orlando resort, The Fountains.

“His most enduring trait was that he was one of the rare individuals that always gave more than he asked from people, and he gave it to everyone,” said Gary Byrd, chief hospitality officer. “He was one of the most self-sacrificing people I’ve ever met. He couldn’t help himself.”

“There was just something about Michael,” Regional Director Howard Kitchen said. “He could walk into a room and talk to anyone and put them at ease. At the same time, he could — in an elevated circumstance — carry himself well in the corporate environment. That’s not easy to come by.”

Casements opens new yoga series

A series of low-impact and gentle stretching postures, Hatha Yoga is the newest program offered at The Casements, at 25 Riverside Drive.

Meant to spur weight-loss, muscle-toning and stress-relief, the exercise class will be held 10-11:30 a.m. Tuesday and 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday. The cost is $45 for a four-week class and $85 for an eight-week class.
