Flagler County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of an attempted robbery of a Palm Coast pharmacy that occurred shortly before 6 p.m. today.

An employee of Home Care Pharmacy, 6 Florida Park Drive, reported a man entered the store around 5:55 p.m. One witness had been walking near the pharmacy, he told the deputy, when he saw a man who looked up to “no good” come out of the wood line on Farrington Drive near the intersection with Florida Park Drive. The man, wearing clothes dirty from the woods, ran east across Florida Park Drive and was almost hit by a car, he said.

Then, a store employee told the deputy, the man entered the store, went up to the counter and handed her a note that said: “Give me a bottle of roxicodone 30mg in 30 seconds.” She told him she didn’t have any meds in her area, and he screamed at her, “Show me your hands!” she said.

She then pointed to the prescription counter to her left, she said, and the man walked over to it. The counter was shielded by Plexiglas. The woman whispered to another employee that they were being robbed. The man with the dirty clothes showed the note to the man working behind the prescription counter, and then pulled up his sweatshirt on the right side and reached into his pocket and began to pull it out as if he was pulling a gun.

The man behind the prescription counter stepped back and yelled “Get out!” to his fellow employees, and they ran for the back of the pharmacy. When the man with the dirty clothes saw the employees running, he ran out of the store. Deputies set up a perimeter and stopped a man that fit the suspect’s general description — witnesses had described a thin and moderately tall man with pale skin and dark hair, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, jeans and dark sunglasses — but a witness said he wasn’t the right man. They let him go.

Later, they used a police dog to search the woods and found a black hooded sweatshirt and sunglasses hidden near the wood line. The man had placed his palm on the store’s counter when he threatened the employees, and deputies collected evidence to submit for DNA analysis. They are still searching for him.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 313-4911 or call Crimestoppers at 888-277-8477. Callers may remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
