Christmas Come True, a Flagler County nonprofit that helps families in need provide a traditional Christmas for their children, will mark its fifth year with a benefit motorcycle poker run and a Halloween party at the Fisherman’s Net restaurant in Flagler Beach.

"We try to raise money year-round to help families in flagler county that need a helping hand, especially at Chistmas time," founder Nadine King said.  "We try to raise as much money as we can."

This year King, of Flagler Beach, hopes for about $3,000 from the two events.

The money will be used to help buy Christmas dinners and childrens' presents for up to 100 families who have registered for the assistance.

To make sure they get the holiday experience they hope for, King speaks with parents to find out what their children like to eat — right down to the flavor of pie and type of stuffing — and what presents they wish for.

"It's all about the children being able to wake up on Christmas morning and find what they wanted," King said. "The best part of this is waking up on christmas morning and knowing that there's a lot of really happen families. That's my christmas."

Christmas Come True has helped more than 305 familes and 760 children since it was founded, King said.

The Christmas Come True poke run is $15 per hand, and begins with 11 a.m. registration Saturday, Oct. 26 at the BeachHouse Beanery at 1112 S. Oceanshore Blvd. in Flagler Beach. The ride will begin at 11:30 and end with lunch at the Iron Boot Pub at about 2:30.

The Halloween party starts at 8 p.m. Oct. 31 at Fisherman’s Net at 500 S. Oceanshore Blvd. A $5 donation at the door includes a house drink. There will be dancing, food, a magic show and a costume contest.
