A 55-year-old man was killed Tuesday night after his motorcycle collided with a van on Tuesday night, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Ronald Salyer, of Middleburg, and Randall Hatcher, 54, also of Middleburg, were traveling south on U.S. 1 near County Road 304 around 9:50 p.m. Saturday. Both were on motorcycles.

Gary Wyatt, 65, of St. Augustine, was traveling north on U.S. 1, approaching the intersection at County Road 304.

Another vehicle had stopped in the roadway at the intersection ahead of Wyatt, who was driving a Ford van. Wyatt began to slow down and swerved left to avoid a collision with the stopped vehicle.

Wyatt then crossed into the southbound lane, directly into the path of Salyer and Hatcher.

Salyer couldn’t avoid Wyatt and struck the front of the van, and his motorcycle was immediately engulfed in flames, the report states.

Hatcher laid his motorcycle down to avoid colliding with the van.

Salyer, who was not wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene by Flagler County emergency personnel, according to the report.

Hatcher, who was wearing a helmet, sustained minor inuries.

Wyatt and his passenger, Eugene Kovacs, 74, both didn’t sustain any injuries.

Alcohol involvement for Salyer is pending, the report states.

Charges are pending, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
