City should take over management of golf course

Dear Editor:
I take exception to City Councilman Bill McGuire’s position regarding profits at Palm Harbor Golf Course. Weather is always a factor, but building a new clubhouse is counterproductive, in my view.

The steps I would take are as follows.

Adjust the rate to be in line with the courses in Volusia County. Cypress Knolls, Pine Lakes and Palm Harbor all seem to have the same rate per round, and it’s too high in the summer months by about $5-7.

Reduce the management personnel. Too many chiefs.

Let the city take over running of the course. I can’t believe there isn’t someone in the city government who can run a golf course. As long as Kemper is involved, the profits of the course will be split.

Fix the traffic problem on Florida Park Drive

Dear Editor:
At the Oct. 8 town hall meeting, the issue of health problems caused by excessive traffic on Florida Park Drive was not fully addressed.

The city of Palm Coast continues to endanger the health and lives of those who live on Florida Park Drive by refusing to fix the excessive traffic problem. We need city engineers that know how to resolve this problem.

Palm Harbor Shopping Center tenants list not updated

Dear Editor:
Not sure how much I would trust a company and their master plans for the Palm Harbor Center when they name two banks as tenants that don't even exist anymore. Barnett Bank has not been around since 1998 and Wachovia since 2008! Might want to keep an eye on these folks.

Kudos to Bunnell for hiring manager from within Flagler County

Dear Editor:
I was absolutely delighted to read in the Palm Coast Observer that the Bunnell City Commission found an experienced Flagler County resident for city manager at a reasonable salary.

Our community will benefit immediately simply from having the city manager's salary being spent in Flagler County.

I truly hope the City Commission's act will inspire our other local government offices to seek qualified local residents to fill job openings as they occur and/or promote from within as a matter of course. Bravo!
