The Flagler County Art League’s Altered Art group has collaborated on a “puzzle challenge” that has produced a large, intricate piece of mixed media art now on display at the Palm Coast Observer office.

The work was created from a puzzle purchased at a garage sale. Each puzzle piece was turned into art by different members of the group, including Altered Art leader BJ Baughman, Marie Kovach, Maggi Fox, Kathy Holland, Denette Clara, Eva Bishop, Olga Monkevitch, Sharron Sanders, Kaye Lance, Loretta Consolla, Marj Weixel, Judi Wormeck, Barbara Kurp, Kathy Duffy, Joan Kovach, Mary Neal, Michael Kovach and Susan Saladini.

The artwork will be on display, along with works by other FCAL members, for three months.

St. Mark launches Health and Wellness ministry
St. Mark by the Sea Lutheran Church will hold a Health and Wellness Fair 3-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, in the church’s Fellowship Hall.

This is the launch of the church’s Health and Wellness ministry. The congregation is a recipient of a grant from Wheat Ridge Ministries (www.wheatridge.org) which makes this new ministry focus possible.
The Health and Wellness Fair is their gift to the community. It’s free and open to the public. It will feature a wide variety of health care professionals. Opportunities are available for blood pressure checks, glucose level, depression, and memory screenings. Balance and strength assessments will also be available.

CVS Pharmacy representatives will be on hand to provide annual flu shots. Be sure to bring your insurance card. Attendees are invited to have a consultation with a local pharmacist about possible drug interactions so bring a list of medications as well. Wear sneakers to enjoy exercises classes, a Tai Chi class, and a relaxation class. Healthy snacks will be available.

The Big Red Bus will also be on the premises. Call the church office at 445-3420 or visit www.oneblooddonor.org to make an appointment. Walk-ins are also accepted.

As an on-going emphasis on health and wellness, the congregation will begin a virtual walk to Bethlehem at the fair. Walk to Bethlehem is a walking program designed to increase the physical, spiritual and emotional health of participants as they work together to cover the 6,510 miles from Palm Coast to Bethlehem in time to greet the baby Jesus at Christmas. This imaginary trip to Bethlehem is accomplished by individuals logging their own walking miles each week. For those who don’t like to walk, any 20 minutes of physical activity equals one mile.

St. Mark is located at 303 Palm Coast Parkway.
