In the mood to scarf down an 18' inch pizza and play a traditional Italian game? La Galleria Italian Market and Eatery has got you covered.

The newest addition to the Ormond Beach restaurant scene opened Nov. 1 and, according to owner Dave Sabato, business has been booming.

"I have the same customers come in all the time. We are certainly building, (but) never as quickly as I want," Sabato chuckled. "I'm very impatient.

Sabato, who has a history of opening conceptual restaurants, was out of the businesses for a few years, taking care of his wife and mother who both became ill. Getting back into the game wasn't exactly what he expected.

"My mother and father are both Sicilian and I grew up in their business. Now, I'm 56 and I'm getting interviewed by kids who are younger than my daughter," Sabato said. "I went to culinary school but the rabbits that are pulled out of my butt in order to make things happen come from experience. They don't come from classrooms."

The restaurant itself is flooded with Sabato's own family history. A photo hangs near the entrance of the eatery of Sabato's aunt on her wedding day in a gorgeous white gown.

"She didn't have a wedding dress, so she made one out of her husband's parachute."

La Galleria Italian Market and Eatery is located at 298 S. Nova Road.
