Jane Villa-Lobos, of Clearview Court N., has been recognized as Selection of the Month for November by The Garden Club at Palm Coast.

A 15-year garden club member, Villa-Lobos joined when she moved to Palm Coast from Gaithersburg, Maryland, in 1998. Over the years she has modified her landscaping by adding more beds and minimizing the amount of grass. The front yard has a little gem magnolia, a topiary loropetalum, a red-yellow flowering exotic hibiscus and four palm trees: a pindo, a Washingtonian and two native sabals.

A large 15-year-old sago palm centers a mounded bed, which is planted with various shade bromeliads. The south front garden is planted with sun-loving bromeliads, agapanthus, kalanchoe, several agaves and soap aloes, which bloom constantly. Indian hawthorn is the predominant foundation planting along with several clumps of African iris. Rug juniper and hottentot fig are used as groundcovers over the marble chips.

A Norfolk Island pine, once a house plant, was planted in the yard in 1998 and now towers above the roof. Another houseplant which outgrew its pot, a pony tail palm, was planted in the ground about 10 years ago. It flowered in 2009 and is now a multi-branched specimen.
