For 50 miles, teams (of one runner, two runners, three runners or more) paced themselves through various portions of Flagler County on Saturday as part of the Oceans 50 relay race.

The race was put on by Triumph Races, which was started by Flagler Beach resident and runner Carrie Meng.

In total, 87 runners participated, including 14 six-runner teams, a two-man team and one solo runner.

The race began in Central Park. It finished in front of the Flagler Beachfront Winery.

“We were very pleased with the turnout and have gotten overwhelming, positive feedback from the runners,” Meng said. “They felt that the course was scenic, safe, well marked and accessible.”

Flagler Track Club finished first overall, in 5 hours, 54 minutes. Melissa’s Men took second, in 6 hours, 41 seconds.

Brothers Danny and Joe Matuszczak combined to run race, finishing third overall, in 6:07.

“We ran our bodies into the ground,” Danny Matuszczak said. “We were in first for a large majority of the event, but the mileage caught up to us in the last three legs. I was still pumped to make the podium, though, as a two-man team.”

Danny Matuszczak also said the race layout and experience were “awesome.”

“The production was top notch,” he said. “Carrie did an amazing job at laying out a fun and diverse course that was well marked for 50 miles.”

The Oceans 50 race benefitted the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office’s Police Athletic League.
