+ Hospital adds occupational therapy room
Florida Hospital Flagler’s Rehabilitation Department now has a fully equipped room for occupational therapists to treat a variety of diagnoses. It is the only one of its kind in Flagler County.

The occupational therapists help patients affected by a stroke or traumatic brain injury, or who have other physical cognitive disabilities, fully engage back into their daily routines.

“We really want our patients to be able to function normally within their own homes,” said Deana Garner, an occupational therapist. “The great thing about our new space is that it is a home-like setting. This allows the patient to fully engage in an activity, (while) before, we were just simulating the activity.”

+ Entrepreneurship contest approaches
The Center for Business Excellence is launching an entrepreneurship contest called Startup Quest at a May 8 introductory meeting. Startup Quest is a 10-week program in which participants will be organized into teams of six to eight and assigned to a local business mentor and a patent from one of Florida’s major universities.

During the 10-week program, Startup Quest will give participants advice and assistance to develop a commercial plan for their assigned patents. Each presentation will be evaluated on execution and market potential.

The program will last from June 5 to Aug. 14, and the classroom time commitment will be one day per week, five hours per day. Participation in this program will be free for those who are selected, and participants will be able to pitch their business plans to real investors.

Eligible participants must be 18 years old or older; have a bachelor’s degree or higher; be unemployed or underemployed; reside in Flagler or Volusia; be a legal U.S. resident; and can commit to participating for the duration of the program.

The time and location of the introductory meeting on May 8 is yet to be determined. For more information, email [email protected] or call 323-7035.
