A Bunnell woman was arrested Tuesday after her boss discovered she had forged a signature on nine checks and deposited more than $2,700 into a private bank account, according to a Flagler County Sheriff’s Office report.

Morgan Renee Roberts, 20, of 2201 Bayberry St., was charged with nine counts of forgery, nine counts of uttering forged bills, checks drafts or notes, and one count of grand theft.

According to a Sheriff’s Office report, deputies were called to Stitch Art, a Flagler County-based embroidery company, where the owner stated Roberts had written checks to herself and signed the owner’s name. The amount ranged from $254 to $405. The victim told detectives she was first contacted by her bank for inconsistent signatures on three checks, the report states.

The owner told deputies she never gave Roberts blank checks or permission to write checks for the business.

The owner confronted her employee about the forged checks, and Roberts told her boss that she wrote and cashed the checks because she needed the money, the report states.

She was being held in the Flagler County Inmate Facility as of Thursday morning.
