A 31-year-old Palm Coast man struck a woman with his car and then drove off early Friday morning, according to a Flagler County Sheriff’s Office report.

Shaun Culbreth, a former employee of two Flagler charter schools, was arrested on charges of aggravated battery and domestic violence, DUI with property damage or personal injury and violation of injunction, according to the report.

Culbreth was previously employed by the Global Charter Outreach Academy. He was also an employee at Heritage Academy. Both charter schools have since closed. Culbreth is also a previous employee of the Flagler County Youth Center.

Around 12:53 a.m. Friday, a Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to a report of physical disturbance on Ridley Lane, in Palm Coast.

Investigation revealed Culbreth struck a 32-year-old woman with his silver Toyota. The woman ended up on the hood of the vehicle before being thrown to the ground, the report states.

The woman told Deputy James Gore “that she was in fear for her life and safety during the incident,” the report states. She sustained injuries to her leg and was taken to a hospital.

Culbreth then fled the scene in his vehicle, the report states.

When deputies later found Culbreth in front of a P-section home around 2 a.m., he smelled like alcohol and was slurring his speech, the report states.

A cold, open bottle of beer was found beneath the brake pedal of the car along with other unopened beer cans, according to the report.

Culbreth refused to submit to field sobriety tests and told deputies he was not driving the Toyota.

Deputies then took Culbreth to the Flagler County Inmate Facility, where he refused to provide a breath sample.

Further investigation reveleaed Culbreth violated an April 2013 injunction for protection placed against him by the woman who was struck by the car.

Culbreth was booked into the Inmate Facility on $7,000 bail. He was released as of Friday afternoon, according to the Flagler County Sheriff's Office's website.
