Cost of School Board’s gamble: $80,000 out of taxpayers’ pockets

The results are in, and the elected high rollers lost again, and we, the residents of Flagler County, have to cover for their lack of judgment.
This time it was the School Board failing to ask the voters to renew the quarter-mill tax last November when the vote could have been no additional charge. Instead, our educational policy makers took $80,000 out of the educational budget and wagered it June 7, asking for a half-mill tax. This is not what we require of the School Board.
This mode of operation has become commonplace with our elected officials. We have recently suffered 20% increases in our Palm Coast utilities because of the irresponsibility of Mayor Jon Netts and our now "award winning" city manager who gambled millions of our dollars on Old Kings Road for the developers of the Walmart site.
The gamblers need to make restitution with the citizens of Flagler County, as their actions are inexcusable and have caused great harm to our community. Accountability is required.

No vote on June 7 was a vote of no confidence in School Board
Dear Editor:
Hallelujah, the voters of Flagler County woke up, got up and defeated the school tax increase requested by our overzealous School Board. I'm sure many residents believed as I did that the school tax would increase once again.
The board led a very aggressive campaign with many meetings and fair media coverage, but still could not sell the voters. The vote is a no confidence vote for our current School Board. During their push for additional taxes, I heard very little on cutting wasteful spending or trying to do the same or more with less. This School Board is more concerned with holding on to their lucrative part-time salaries and refuse to accept the reality of economic conditions of today.
I suggest that we vote in new people at half the salary that will do a better job for the community. We have many qualified individuals living in the county that will be willing to serve if given the opportunity. Until this happens, we should all watch the actions of the School Board and hold them accountable.
This past weekend, I called Flagler County School Board member John Fischer and asked who paid for the sign he was holding in front of the VFW Post 8696 in support of a yes vote on June 6. I was not surprised when told that he did not know; so much for oversight.

McMillan column about man in bushes was in poor taste
Dear Editor:
I can't believe what I just read. How can you make light of what could have been a tragedy for your wife and young daughter. I hope that if there is ever another similar, life-threatening situation, that your wife calls 911 before calling you.
God forbid that you couldn't finish your lunch, or missed a meeting. Your priorities are seriously out of whack.
