The Florida Department of Environmental Protection's Washington Oaks Gardens State Park is offering a guided garden walk 10 a.m. Saturday, July 27 to teach participants about gardening and to illuminate the fascinating history of the park.

Join a park ranger on a stroll through the formal park gardens to learn about the various flowers, plants, and butterfly species.

Participants should bring cameras, water, sunscreen, bug repellant and walking shoes for the hike. Participants will meet at the main garden parking lot to begin the hike. Price of the tour will be included in the regular park entrance fee of $2 per person on bicycle, $4 per vehicle for single occupancy or $5 per vehicle, up to eight people.

Zion Baptist to host back-to-school event
Zion Baptist Church will host its first Back-to-School ‘Bible-in-the-Back Pack’ School Supply Give-Away & Spoken Word Event noon to 3 p.m. Aug. 24, at 1 Enterprise Drive, Bunnell.

The first 50 students to arrive at the will receive a sport backpack containing school supplies, courtesy of Palm Coast Dollar General, and a new Bible courtesy of WAPN Radio Love 91.5 FM.

“Students are encouraged to donate their new Bible to a classmate if they already have their own,” said the Rev. Charlene E. Cothran. “The answers to so many questions that today's youth have, are in this book.”

The highlight of this student youth event is the Christian Spoken Word & Hip Hop Gospel Artists Showcase. Featured artists include Mark ‘Chrisman’ Joseph, of Palm Coast, Sherhonda Faison, of Daytona Beach, and Cellus, of Palatka.

Any local students who are gospel singers, dancers and mimes wishing to perform may contact the church at 283-4905.
