Flagler County’s unemployment rose to 10.2% in June, compared to 9.6% the month before, according to data released by the Center for Business Excellence.
The jobless rate in Flagler County is the second highest among all of the state’s 67 counties, second only to Hendry County, which reported an unemployment rate of 13.5% for June.
Statewide, the jobless rate is at 7.1%, the lowest it has been since September 2008, when unemployment was at 7%. Nationwide unemployment is at 7.6%.
In the Palm Coast metro area, nonagricultural employment has decreased by 2% over the year. The information, trade, transportation, leisure and hospitality and government sectors all lost jobs over the year, the numbers say.
Jobs in manufacturing, financial activities, professional and business services, education and health services have held steady throughout 2013.
The Palm Coast metro area has experienced the second-fastest employment decline in the state, behind the Panama City-Lynn Haven-Panama City Beach metro area.
