Washington Oaks names first photo challenge winner

Bonnie Eicher’s photo was named Photo of the Month for June in the Washington Oaks Gardens State Park Photo Challenge.

Honorable mentions also go out to Roman Suarez and Arleen Schreiner for their entries. The Photo of the Month is displayed in the park gift shop as well as at the visitors center.

July's Photo Challenge will take place Saturday, July 20, the third Saturday of the month. The assignment will be completed using cell phones, as the photographer's tool, to capture designated images.

Photo Challenge assignments and a park map of the photo spot locations are distributed at the ranger station. Advisers will be available between 9 a.m. and noon.

FPC student receives Boys State Scholarship
Joshua Ore, son of Bud and Emily Ore, of Palm Coast, won the $1,000 Samsung scholarship at Boys State last week. This puts him in the running for one of nine $20,000 scholarships.

Boys State is a comprehensive one-week leadership course in state and local government development to offer youth a better perspective to the practical operation of government and to show that the individual is responsible for the character and success of government.
