A man who stole a credit card was caught after the card’s owner noticed a charge of $1.92 on her statement, deputies say.

Jack Clinton Edwards, 27, is accused of entering a 94-year-old woman’s residence on July 16 while the woman was asleep in her bedroom. Edwards took three of her credit cards.  The woman didn’t realize anyone had been in her home until she learned that her card had been charged $1.92 at a Palm Coast store.

Immediately after that charge was made, the same card had been used at a Redbox rental kiosk outside the store.

The woman at that point checked her purse and realized that two of her other credit cards had been stolen, but she canceled the cards before they were used.

Deputies retrieved security footage from the store, which depicted Edwards at the cash register as well as at the Redbox kiosk. Members of Edwards’ family identified him in the surveillance video, even commenting that they had seen him wearing the same clothing the day the credit card was used.

Edwards was located and arrested Thursday evening — his 27th birthday, records show. He was charged with second-degree burglary of an occupied dwelling, fraudulent use of a credit card and exploitation of the elderly.

Edwards also has pending charges against him for burglary of an automobile, boat or conveyance and grand theft. He is being held at the Flagler County Inmate Facility on $11,000 bond.
