The construction debris is cleared away, and now the business space at 128 N. Nova Road is filled with bright lights, the scent of chocolate and glass cases filled with fruit.

Ormond Beach now has an Edible Arrangements.

Owned by Ivone and Christopher Mazurek, the store, opened Tuesday, Jan. 29, is the couple’s second in the franchise.

But it wasn’t always smiles and candy bouquets for the Mazureks.

Before the couple moved from Connecticut to Palm Coast in 2005 to open their first Edible Arrangements, Christopher Mazurek was a commercial construction supervisor. He contracted work for medical offices and high-end restaurants. Ivone was a district manager for about 10 years, overseeing 15 salon-industry stores throughout three states.

But then the chance to franchise a growing company in a growing city in the south came along, and it felt right. So they jumped at it.

“The opportunity just presented itself and it seemed like it made sense, and I think we were just ready for a change,” Ivone Mazurek says.

And now, after eight years in Palm Coast, they were ready for another change. Mazurek says the pair has always had solid business from Saint Augustine through Ormond Beach, but something about Ormond always felt a little more like home.

They knew that if they wanted to keep covering so much ground, they would need a second store, and they’ve been chamber members here since 2006.

“I love Ormond, and we’ve always done a lot of business here,” she said. “So we knew it was time to open here. It’s a great community, and we’ve always felt very welcome. ... We just felt the time was right.”

The store has six employees, including its driver.
