The new Sunoco gas station could finish construction and reopen before the new year, according to officials.

The new and improved Sunoco gas station on the northeast corner of Granada Boulevard and Yonge Street could be open before the end of this year.

Richard Goss, director of planning and building, said that the gas station could receive its certificate of occupancy in 15 to 30 days. The station is getting extra attention, he added, because of its heart-of-the-city location

“We didn’t want a gas station that looked like every other gas station,” Goss said. “It’s our downtown.”

The construction, currently being completed by several companies, including Cornerstone Consulting Engineers & Architectural Inc., features a clock tower.

Goss estimates the project’s cost at $1.5 million.
