The wait is finally over: Construction on the Seminole Woods multipurpose path is scheduled to begin in early 2014, Palm Coast officials said Tuesday.
The highly anticipated path will be built in-house by city crews and will be constructed in three stages.
Construction on the first portion, from State Road 100 to Ulaturn Trail (south) will begin in January and finish in March. The second phase, from Ulaturn Trail (south) to Citation Parkway, will be built from April through June of next year. And the final stage, from Citation Parkway to Sesame Boulevard, will be built from September to November 2014.
The entire project was designed in-house, and city crews will complete the construction.
The total of the supplies for the project, not including cost of work for the city crews, is $620,000. It was approved in the fiscal year 2014’s budget.
“This is another project we have been talking about and working on for years,” City Manager Jim Landon said.
Bulldog Drive improvements to enter construction phase
The theme of upcoming-construction-projects continued at Tuesday’s City Council workshop when city staff told the council that work along Bulldog Drive, near State Road 100, is ready to begin.
Eventually, Bulldog Drive will be improved from two lanes to four, but that won’t happen immediately.
The current project includes stormwater improvements, which includes shifting the entrance to Flagler Palm Coast High School west along State Road 100. Right turning lanes along State Road 100 onto Bulldog Drive and into the high school will also be built. Additionally, a left turning lane will be built on Bulldog Drive for a left turn into FPC.
A 10-foot-wide sidewalk will also be built along the west side of Bulldog Drive.
Other improvements include a right turn lane on Bulldog Drive onto State Road 100 and two left turn lanes onto State Road 100. The existing left-turn lane on State Road 100 onto Bulldog Drive will be extended, too.
All of these items will be included in the first phase of the project. The second phase includes the four-laning of Bulldog Drive at a date yet to be determined.
Design for the first phase is underway, and construction is scheduled to begin in early 2014, with completion by September 2014.
The cost of the project is about $5 million, according to city documents.
