Flagler County Sheriff James L. Manfre recently presented certificates to the newest graduates of the Sheriff’s Office Citizens Academy.

“This academy has been extremely popular with our residents. It gives us an opportunity to be able to showcase every division in the agency and allows our citizens to meet with our law enforcement personnel on a one-on-one basis,” said Sheriff Manfre.

The second graduating class of the academy consisted of: Jim Kutchenbrod, Juliann Eckmann,
Elnora “Ellie” Unum, Monica Araque, Carolyn Sechrist, Susan Kibler, Joann and Richard
Chevrette, Carl Sanderson, Gail and Giuseppe Moro and John Cappello.

The six-week program meets two-hours twice a week for six weeks. During that time, participants are introduced to division commanders and directors, along with members of the K-9 unit, traffic unit, SWAT and dive units, as well as the investigative services and victim-advocates personnel. Part of the course includes a tour of the Flagler County Communications Center and the Detention Facility.

Upon completion, participants are given an opportunity to do a ride-along with a deputy to see firsthand what it is like to be on patrol.

The program is coordinated by the Sheriff’s Office Community Outreach section under the direction of Sgt. Mike Lutz. Dates for 2014 classes have not yet been scheduled.

Applications are available at flaglersheriff.com or by calling 586-2623.
