According to a post on the Flagler County Sheriff's Office's Twitter at 5:56 a.m., there was an active fire at U.S. 1 and County Road 304. Smoke drifted throughout the area, and the fire department was on the scene.

On the Palm Coast Observer's Facebook page, the Flagler County Professional Firefighters' Association IAFF Local 4337 posted this comment at about 9 a.m.: "This fire occured in the overnight and has been under control for several hours. Fire is not a danger in the area, but smoke may be affecting drivers in the area, please be careful."

The Sheriff's Office says heavy smoke will be noted across Flagler County today.

According to Communications Manager Carl Laundrie, the fire is not in danger of spreading, but it's a good idea to avoid the area just because of smoke. It's possible the fire is from cut brush and mulch on the Strickland property, but that is not confirmed.
